Rodeo Break Catalina Campout--Adventure Awaits

Posted Date: 02/02/26 (05:00 PM)

During Rodeo Break, your student could be exploring Mars habitats, camping under desert stars, and hunting for hidden treasures in the wilderness. Community Schools is offering adventures during Rodeo Break that blend hands-on science, outdoor exploration, and just the right amount of geocaching excitement.

Rodeo Break Catalina Campout
Students will explore Biosphere 2 in Oracle, diving into real-world research on sustainability and how scientists are preparing humans to live on other planets. Inside this iconic research facility, campers will discover how limited resources, energy use, food systems, and teamwork matter when you're living in a closed environment—whether that's Mars or a research dome in the Arizona desert.
Then, they'll put those concepts into action by applying Mars sustainability principles to their own camping experience: planning meals, conserving water, managing waste and energy, and working together to thrive with limited supplies.

After a night camping under the stars at Catalina State Park, surrounded by classic Sonoran Desert beauty, students will:
🥾 Hike to the stunning Montrose Pools through canyon trails
🧭 Go geocaching in the park, using GPS skills to hunt for hidden treasures
🏕️ Experience the magic of desert camping—campfire evenings, wide-open skies, and outdoor camaraderie
From science domes to desert trails, campfire stories to GPS treasure hunts, this adventure is all about curiosity, confidence, and outdoor fun.

Plus, they'll come home with stories about sleeping under the stars, finding hidden geocaches, and understanding how scientists prepare to live on Mars.
